First Wind Turbine Installed in Lorain County Offers Alternative Renewable Energy Sources to Company

February 3, 2009

From a report on Feb 3, 2009 in the Lorain Morning Journal about the first wind turbine installed in Lorain County at Turtle Plastics.  It is 70 feet high with 16 feet blades.  The prediction is that the wind turbine will produce almost all the electricity Turtle Plastics will need to run the plant.  As an alternative renewable energy source, this is the first of many wind turbines that will be popping up in the area due to the proximity to the lake.  Mayor Anthony Krasienko hopes this will provide incentive for more companies to adopt the technology and entice businesses to relocate to Lorain.  Alternative renewable energy sources have the potential to create jobs.

A city ordinance was passed a year ago for industrial areas in Lorain County to install small wind turbines.  The city is hoping to expand the ordinance to allow residential areas to install small wind turbines but that could take some time.

Plain Dealer Identifies Windpower in Ohio as an Alternative Energy Solution

January 28, 2009

A recent article in the Plain Dealer explains the Energy Task Force that was created by the Cuyahoga County Commissioners  in 2006 to study offshore windpower to produce green renewable enegy & create jobs.

The Commissioner’s economic development priority list was discussed with then President Elect Barack Obama when he visited the Bedford Heights wind industry supplier.

The goal of the task force is to use European knowledge to create jobs in Cleveland.  Gov. Ted Strickland has layed the groundwork for the emerging industry by getting standards passed for alternative renewable energy sources as part of a state energy bill.  The task force was developed to create jobs in Ohio because they have the resources and skilled labor to grow the wind energy business.

Who would of thought that Cleveland would be the leader in wind power, an alternative energy source and have skilled labor in that area.  I would have thought that states by an ocean would have had better resources.

Alternative Energy Companies Find Niche in Green Market

October 13, 2008

Wind and water alternative energy companies are replacing coal and other traditional energy sources. Using nature’s resources are greener and cleaner for the environment when it comes to using energy to power our offices and homes.

Windation Energy Systems from Menlo Park, California, has created a self-contained wind turbine which generates up to 5 kilowatts of electricity. Iodation’s founder and CEO, Mark Sheikhrezai, designed his wind turbine from an ancient Persian wind catcher, which was stated in a Cnet news article. Although 5 kilowatts will not power an entire office building or home, it will dramatically reduce the need for traditional power. Imagine seeing several wind turbines, which look similar to an HVAC system, on top of city office buildings throughout the U.S. The Windy City of Chicago could surely benefit from alternative energy companies building wind turbines. Other cities such as San Francisco, Cleveland, Miami, and Seattle could surely benefit from wind alternative energy companies turbines. Although costly to buy initially, the wind turbine would reap the payoff benefits in as little as five to seven years; however, in the meantime, saving on costly electric bills.

Water power generated from wave and tides could ultimately generate up to 25 percent of our daily electricity usage, reports Greentech Media. There is much to be gained from alternative energy companies that incorporate power from the tides. Although there are also many roadblocks and detours along the way to generate public commercial interest, the UK is doing the most research with trial projects. However, as alternative energy companies become more in demand, the public interest will grow with funding such projects to shrink the necessity of nuclear power plants. Potentially, the energy produced from waves could produce 650 megawatts of electricity and could replace one natural gas or coal power plant, according to UK researchers.
