A Quick and Easy way to Start Getting Power from Alternative Renewable Energy Sources

March 3, 2009

Thinking about using more alternative renewable energy sources in your home or apartment? If you own a home, then there are several options for using the best in alternative energy. However,  if you’re a renter, then there aren’t that many options for decreasing your carbon emissions from electricity. There is one effective method available for alternative renewable energy sources to many renters, and it’s so easy that even homeowners may want to consider it.

By joining a utility-based alternative renewable energy sources program, you can sign up with a third party electricity provider who uses alternative renewable energy sources. There’s nothing extra to install; the green energy comes from the electric grid like all other forms of electricity, and you simply pay for whatever you use. And since it’s still your local electricity provider that’s feeding energy into your house or apartment, your bill will still come from your regular electricity provider. You may end up paying more for your electricity from alternative renewable energy sources. Depending on the service and where you are, it could be between 1-4 cents more per kilowatt-hour.

So how can you find out what providers for alternative renewable energy sources are in your area? If you live in the US, the Department of Energy has an Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy site that lists green power programs for each state. By most accounts, the sign up process is easy.

In most cases, the alternative renewable energy sources used are wind power or hydroelectric power. Biomass alternative renewable energy sources are also gaining popularity. Some providers may even let you choose the type of green power you’d like to use.

First Wind Turbine Installed in Lorain County Offers Alternative Renewable Energy Sources to Company

February 3, 2009

From a report on Feb 3, 2009 in the Lorain Morning Journal about the first wind turbine installed in Lorain County at Turtle Plastics.  It is 70 feet high with 16 feet blades.  The prediction is that the wind turbine will produce almost all the electricity Turtle Plastics will need to run the plant.  As an alternative renewable energy source, this is the first of many wind turbines that will be popping up in the area due to the proximity to the lake.  Mayor Anthony Krasienko hopes this will provide incentive for more companies to adopt the technology and entice businesses to relocate to Lorain.  Alternative renewable energy sources have the potential to create jobs.

A city ordinance was passed a year ago for industrial areas in Lorain County to install small wind turbines.  The city is hoping to expand the ordinance to allow residential areas to install small wind turbines but that could take some time.

Plain Dealer Identifies Windpower in Ohio as an Alternative Energy Solution

January 28, 2009

A recent article in the Plain Dealer explains the Energy Task Force that was created by the Cuyahoga County Commissioners  in 2006 to study offshore windpower to produce green renewable enegy & create jobs.

The Commissioner’s economic development priority list was discussed with then President Elect Barack Obama when he visited the Bedford Heights wind industry supplier.

The goal of the task force is to use European knowledge to create jobs in Cleveland.  Gov. Ted Strickland has layed the groundwork for the emerging industry by getting standards passed for alternative renewable energy sources as part of a state energy bill.  The task force was developed to create jobs in Ohio because they have the resources and skilled labor to grow the wind energy business.

Who would of thought that Cleveland would be the leader in wind power, an alternative energy source and have skilled labor in that area.  I would have thought that states by an ocean would have had better resources.
